Workshops to create enviro savvy teachers

SOUTH Durban based teachers have been invited to attend the annual series of environmental workshops on Thursday, May 4 at the Treasure Beach Environmental Education Centre in Bluff.

Wildlife and Environment Society South Africa (WESSA) in partnership with Sapref have extended 45 invitations to interested teachers from underprivileged schools. The workshop will focus on the importance of water, water quality, pollution, drought, water audit and tips on saving water at home and school.

“Teachers who are present for the full day will receive a certificate of attendance and an exciting resource pack. Lunch and tea will be provided. The workshop will be looking at ways to enhance local actions aimed at improving the environmental knowledge of primary and high school teachers,” said WESSA senior education officer, Dudu Ntombela.

Teachers will be equipped and empowered with creative ideas on how to link the environment to the curriculum they teach at school using hands-on activities as well as information on low cost ideas that they can implement in the classroom.

“Space is limited, therefore we can only accommodate two teachers per school. Teachers must wear comfortable clothes and flat walking shoes,” added Ntombela.
