THIS week’s word is something we probably all needed and hated after the long weekend.

Your alarm clock, the neighbour’s noisy dogs, the car hooting outside your window – anything that wakes you up is an expergefactor.


It is a timeworn word that has fallen out of use in recent years.

A variation on the word is expergefaction, which means waking up.
