Between us we managed to locate them and we were safety reunited.

VIDEO footage of protesters who had a run in with an angry mob who appeared to be against the #Zumamustfall march in Durban is circulating on social media.

The peaceful march which started from the old circus site near Suncoast and ended at the Amphitheater on the beach, was marred by a few angry mobsters who targeted one of the protestors. ‘
A Montclair woman who chose not to be named, said she and her four friends were caught in the mix when the mob attacked the man in the video is one of her friends who did not want to be named. “One of my friends was hit with sticks,” she said.

A sign was hung on Twini Hill Bridge this morning

She recalls the minutes before the attack and how the Public Order Policing (POP) unit came to their rescue.

“I was petrified, the build-up to the march was an exciting time. Friday arrived and everything went according to plan with the arrangement for transport and the people I was meeting there. To be part of the march was exhilarating and a wonderful experience. My horrifying experience happened after the march when we were waiting for our transport to arrive,” she said. “My colleagues and I were waiting when all of a sudden there were police sirens. We turned in the direction they were coming from. We saw was a mass of people heading towards us. Escape was impossible as there was just no place for us to run. In the blink of an eye the mass was on top of us and proceeded to hit one of my colleagues with sticks on his head and body.

Due to his disability from a previous stroke he was unable to run. “I have never been so happy to see a police vehicle in my life. A POP van pulled up by us and shouted for us to jump in. Only three of my colleagues managed to get in. One colleague had disappeared and the colleague that was attacked was being placed into the back of a police van for his safety. As two of my colleagues were missing I contacted my ward councillor to let him know what had happened. Between us we managed to locate them and we were safety reunited. I have to thank the police for their  brilliant service we received from them during this harrowing experience. This experience has had a very traumatic impact on me and hours later I am still shaking. It has certainly opened my eyes to the reality of South Africa,” she added.
