Orchids in full bloom at annual show

A number of orchid plants will also be raffled off as prizes.

IT will be orchid heaven for enthusiasts of this flower at the Parkhill Bowling Club on Umhlanga Rocks Driveon Saturday, 22 April and Sunday, 23 April.

The Natal Orchid Society will hold its annual Autumn Orchid Show which will  display a vast range of stunning orchids and other plants will be in the spotlight for all t

 

Plants which are in flower at this time of year include miltonias, phragmipediums, dendrobiums and vandas.

 

“We invite all orchid lovers and keen gardeners to visit the show where these plants, plus many more, will be on display,” says Melanie van Greunen, vice-president of the Natal Orchid Society.

Apart from the orchid show, there will be a variety of orchid plants on sale for those who would like to start or add to their own collection. Potting demonstrations will also be held on both days and experts will be in attendance to share their knowledge about this beautiful plant. A number of orchid plants will also be raffled off as prizes.

The show will be held from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and from 9am to 3pm on Sunday.

Light lunches and refreshments will be sold in the tea garden. Entrance fee is R15 for adults. Admission is free for children under 12.

Orchid-growers and anyone interested in owning and nurturing the plants are invited to attend the monthly meetings of the Natal Orchid Society. These are held on the second Monday of every month at 7pm at the Parkhill Bowling Club, Umhlanga Rocks Drive (entrance in Sterling Crescent), Durban North.
