TB-focus for Hime Street outreach

The outreach programme in Hime Street which was very successful.

THE Gateway Clinic from Wentworth Hospital hosted an outreach programme on Saturday, 25 March in Hime Street, Wentworth with the main focus on tuberculosis.

 

 

Sister Renette Roskruge-Wilkins and her team educated the locals on healthy living.

 

They offered free services including blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol testing. Body mass index (BMI) and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) monitoring was conducted by the nutritionist.

“Outreach programmes have improved community partnerships, myself and team in partnership with Inner City Ministries and Thabitha Community Care Services had an outreach programme in Hime Street which was very successful. The approach was holistic,” said Sr Roskruge.

Papsmears, PSA testing for males and HIV counselling and testing services were also offered and children were dewormed and were given vitamin A capsules. “Health education on substance abuse conducted by Nathan Wells from NGO Thabitha Community Care Services was the key focus as well as Tuberculosis screening and TB testing, substance abuse screening and counselling was also offered as Substance abuse is pandemic in the community. The theme for the day was TB anywhere is TB everywhere,” she added.
