Shop’s employee’s web of lies catch up with him

The money is yet to be recovered and the man's accomplices are still at large.

A MAN was caught in a web of lies after inconsistencies in his business robbery story made Montclair SAPS investigators suspicious which led to his arrest.

On Tuesday, 21 March a case of business robbery was opened by the 27-year-old who claimed he had been held at gunpoint at the bus stop on South Coast Road at 9pm. He had just closed his Montclair shop at the Montclair Mall when he was approached by two men in a red vehicle who took him back to the shop.

It is alleged the armed men took R70,000 from the shop. After thorough investigation by Const Dlamini of Montclair trio crimes (MTC) unit, he found the man’s story to be full of inconsistencies. He arrested and detained the man and after more questioning, he revealed that he had arranged for the men to meet him on the corner of South Coast Road.

They went to the shop and took the money.

The money is yet to be recovered and the man’s accomplices are still at large.
Investigations by the MTC will continue.
