Which is SA’s city with the best quality of life?

This city came in 87th position worldwide.

FOR the third time in a row, Durban was named the SA city with the highest quality of life in the international Mercer’s Quality of Living survey.

“Our municipality continuously strives to ensure our 3.7-million residents enjoy an improved quality of life through the services we render. The municipality’s new radical economic transformation framework aims to accelerate service delivery, provide economic opportunities to poor and unemployed residents and grow the small business sector,” said eThekwini mayor, Zandile Gumede.

The city with the highest quality of living internationally is Vienna for the eighth consecutive year. The rest of the top 10 reads Zurich, Auckland, Munich, Vancouver, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Geneva, Copenhagen and Basel tied with Sydney tied in 10 place.

In the Africa and the Middle East zone, Dubai placed highest at 74th. First-placed SA city, Durban came in the 87th position worldwide and fourth in the Africa and Middle East zone, with Cape Town and Johannesburg in second and third place respectively in the country.

At the other end of the spectrum, Baghdad came in last position at number 231, just behind Bangui.

Mercer’s 19th annual Quality of Living survey analysed data from September to November 2016 to tabulate results.
