COP comes down on Bluff burglars

Patrols are helping to reduce crimes in the area.

ONGOING operations by the Bluff’s Community Orientated Policing (COP) team led to the arrest of three people on Friday, 17 March.

In the early hours of the morning, COP’s reaction unit were on patrol on the Bluff. The unit is involved in housebreaking prevention operations because of persistent activity in the area, according to chairman, Rake Jeeves.

“Our members first chased suspects in Ancketil and Wellfreer roads after they had tried to break into a house. Later the suspects were spotted in Cluver Crescent but disappeared.

Finally one of the suspects was detained in Byng Avenue after being spotted by the home owner. Our COP teams were close by so we were able to respond rapidly,” said Jeeves.

The second man escaped. Metro Police’s canine unit arrested both a taxi driver who came to collect the housebreaker and stolen items and the buyer in Berea.

“Brighton Beach detectives will continue with the investigation. Well done to our COP members and Metro Police dog unit once again – that’s three suspects arrested in one morning.”
