City delegation to promote investment in London

ETHEKWINI Mayor Zandile Gumede will this week travel to London to represent Durban at a number of high-level meetings.

Councillor Gumede will be accompanied by a small delegation including the deputy chairman of the Economic Development and Planning Committee, Councillor Nkosenhle Madlala and acting deputy city manager of Economic Development and Planning (ECOD) Phillip Sithole.

The Annual Debate will provide a platform for officials to showcase the city’s investment strengths and business development while strengthening governmental relations. The themes of the 2017 edition include “Is Technology capable of transforming Africa?”, “Impact Investment: The Way Forward” and “Rapid Urbanisation: Strength or Weakness?” Sithole has planned a scouting trip to London to facilitate hosting of investment and tourism meetings as part of the Ebandla Programme in partnership with the African Renaissance project director.

Officials will engage on tourism and business trade engagements. The trip will also provide an opportunity to evaluate Durban’s international marketing programmes which have been the cornerstones of the Durban Tourism visitor strategy. Councillor Gumede said the delegation will be able to finalise all the above meetings on one trip and save costs of further trips.
