THE hardships of Wentworth youth inspired Fairvale Secondary life science teacher, Rochelle Booysen to write and publish a book to help inspire and motivate the youth.

Her book entitled, Mysteria: The Curse and the Kingdom promises to transport its readers to an enchanted world where it follows the lives of Cody and Lira. While Lira is a beautiful princess born into the enchanted world of royalty, Cody is a handsome young orphan who lives on the streets. It was completed in 2015.

“Mysteria was inspired by the children I teach but the main character is loosely based on my son, Cody. I wanted to give Wentworth children as well as other children going through difficulties something positive that can teach or guide them on the right path,” said Booysen.

Booysen was invited to Glenwood Boys High last week to give a talk and teach about creative writing skills and encourage them to read more books.”It is important for the youngsters to read, at it is a portal to new worlds and new lives. Just as education is important. We need to motivated the youth to invest in their education by honing their reading skills,” she added.

During her talk she introduced her book to the pupils, telling them how reading and writing has become a big part of her life. “I advised those who are interested in writing to know their genre, know what path they want to take with their work. For me, the sky’s the limit and I would love for people to read and review my book,” she said.

Her biggest dream is for Mysteria to develop into a movie. “I really want to make a difference with my work and show people no matter where you come from or your situation, you can change your path, you can choose whether your life is worth more,” said the teacher.

She said education is the key to the future and is capable of turning lives around. “Life is a journey and regardless of the hurdles, always be true to yourself and always believe your life is guided and protected by a higher power.”
