Montclair policeman arrested for rape of 15-year-old

She was introduced to the man she considered to be her uncle

A Montclair police officer (49) was arrested for the rape of a 15-year-old girl by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) on Wednesday, 22 February.

It is believed the girl, who was staying at a Durban-based children’s home, was sexually abused between 2015 and May 2016. She was introduced to the man she considered to be her uncle and his wife when they used to visit the home regularly.
According to IPID national spokesman, Moses Dlamini, the couple would spend holidays, including Christmas, with the girl. It is alleged that it was during these visits that the teenager was raped and sexually assaulted by the man on numerous occasions.

The matter was reported to IPID and after conducting an investigation, the man was arrested when the director of public prosecutions issued a warrant of arrest. The suspect was charged and detained at Durban Central Police Station. He will appear in Durban Magistrates Court on 23 February on rape and sexual assault charges.

Montclair SAPS communications officer, Cpt Dereck Vijiam confirmed the case had been opened and investigated by the IPID. ” While this officer is a member of our station, we have minimal information of the case. We do know he was arrested,” said Cpt Vijiam.
