Military marches into Durban for Armed Forces Day

Many events are planned over the next few days.

THE armed forces are in town and celebrations are underway for the first Armed Forces Day on Tuesday, 21 February.

Leading up to the official Armed Forces Day, a number of events will be taking place in Durban city centre.

  • From Thursday to Tuesday, 16 to 21 February an expo will be held from 8am to 4pm at the Moses Mabhida fan park.
  • From Friday to Sunday, 17 to 19 February, there will be naval ship open day at berths A and B from 8am to 4pm. These can be accessed via Mahatma Gandhi Road (Point Road).
  • On Friday and Saturday, 17 and 18 February there will be a capability demonstration by the navy and a fly-over by the airforce, with the main event at 10am on 18 February.
  • On Monday, 20 February, a capability demonstration will be held at Blue Lagoon. Tracer rounds will be shot by specialists military weapons and small vehicles from 3pm to 4.30pm with the main event from 7.30pm to 9pm.
  • On the official Armed Forces Day, 21 February, a full mechanised parade of 300 military vehicles and 4,000 soldiers will march by Moses Mabhida Stadium from 10am to 2pm.
