Montclair police put brakes on car thief’s three-year joyride

"He would lie and say he needed to call his wife," said Cpt Vijiam.

A CAR thief’s three-year crime spree came to a halt, thanks to the investigation of a Montclair SAPS detective.

The so called ‘doctor’ as he would introduce himself to the salesmen, would bamboozle car dealers using the same modus operandi, gaining their trust to take a vehicle our for a test drive and never return.
Montclair SAPS communication officer, Cpt Dereck Vijiam said he would win them over and gain their trust. “He would buy them cool drink before they gave him the keys to test drive. He would lie and say he needed to call his wife,” said Cpt Vijiam.
