Orphaned monkey saved by CROW staff

Slow down and keep an eye out for wildlife crossing the road

A six-week-old vervet monkey was rescued by the Centre for rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) on Friday, 6 January.

The baby monkey was found in a tree on the Bluff after his mother was run over and killed by a car. The baby was also struck by the car but managed to seek safety in the tree. “It took CROW’s team two hours to get the baby monkey close to the rescue cage so we could transfer him to the centre,” said CROW spokesman, Sharl Els.

After a successful rescue, Bo will now begin a three-year rehabilitation process at CROW, which will see him become an intergrated member of a new troop.

“Drive carefully on the province’s roads. Slow down and keep an eye out for wildlife crossing the road, especially during baby season,” said Els.
