Baby dumped in toilet bin

The newborn had been wrapped in two black plastic bags before being dumped in the toilet on the second floor of a CBD building

A newborn baby was found wrapped up in two plastic bags, dumped in a rubbish bin in Durban’s CBD on Monday morning, 9 January.

At about 8.10am Netcare 911 paramedics were called to the Commercial Towers Building about the discovery of a newborn baby boy who was found in a rubbish bin in a toilet on the second floor.

The found the newborn had been wrapped in two black plastic bags before being dumped into the bin. The advanced life support paramedic and his team worked fervently to stabilise the child, who had by then been deprived of oxygen. After a few minutes, the child responded to the treatment. Medics then transported him to hospital for further care. The discovery is been investigated by the police.
