Road safety in sharp focus

THE Ngizoba Road Safe Education Campaign aims to get road users to commit to road safety.

Launched by eThekwini Municipality on Friday, 9 December, the campaign calls for road users to make road safety a priority this festive season through the hashtag #NgizobaRoadSafe that calls for the pledge, “I commit to road safety”.

“While road safety is an ongoing campaign, it is intensified during the busy period because Durban is a tourist destination which usually sees an influx of visitors during the festive season,” said mayor, Councillor Zandile Gumede.

The municipality calls for people to stop texting, talking on the phone, drinking, eating or applying make-up while driving. Children should also be safely buckled up and should not be allowed to sit on a lap in the front seat.

Pedestrians are urged to refrain from drinking alcohol, talking on their phone or wearing headphones while crossing the road.
