Finger puppets bring closure to anti-bullying campaign

Brighton Beach SAPS media officer, Captain Louise Le Roux used the medium of finger puppets to convey her message.

THE final leg of the Brighton Beach SAPS Safer Schools anti-school bullying programme 2016 came to an end recently, with a focus on teacher bullying.

Brighton Beach SAPS media officer, Captain Louise Le Roux used the medium of finger puppets to convey her message.

She suggested teachers use a gratitude box for pupils to place apology letters for being disruptive, showing disrespect or being abusive towards their teachers or classmates.

“Pupils were also encouraged to draw pictures and write letters of gratitude to show their appreciation for their teachers, which were also placed in these boxes. When situations arose teachers could pause, open their gratitude boxes and read some of these letter as a reminder they are appreciated and do make a difference. The project was called ‘Keep Calm and Teach’,” said Capt Le Roux.

Gratitude boxes submitted for a creative arts competition were judged by Capt Le Roux based on appearance and sincerity of a letter placed in each box.

Marlborough Park Junior Primary School’s Clair Kaplan and Fynnlands Senior Primary School’s Monica Van Wyk were the winners of the competition in the junior and senior primary categories respectively. They each received a certificate of achievement, signed by Brighton Beach SAPS station commissioner, Colonel Carel Grobler, a R300 gift certificate from Mr Price and a photo collage of the project.

Brighton Beach SAPS management congratulates the winners and thanks the schools for hosting the campaign. Capt Le Roux is also thanked for running the campaign.
