Police chase nets man with unlicensed gun

34-year-old man was among three wanted for hijacking who were chased by Umlazi K9 in Montclair

 

A police chase netted a wanted hijacker on Monday, 5 December at about 11.45pm in Montclair.

The 34-year-old was among three men wanted for hijacking who were chased by Umlazi K9 in Montclair.

The K9 unit members managed to arrest the man in bush and found him in possession of an unlicensed 9mm Norinco pistol, while the other two suspects fled on foot and are still being sought by police.

He will be charged for possession of unlicensed firearm. A case was opened at Montclair police station for further investigation. The arrested suspect will appear in Durban Magistrates’ Court soon.

KZN acting provincial commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa praised members for their dedication that led to the arrest of the suspect and firearm recovery. “We will ensure that the two suspects who evaded the police arrest are caught soon to face the consequences of their actions,” he said.
