ABM cleans up Lamontville

THE South Durban Basin (SDB) Area Based Management (ABM) office helped clean up Lamontville on Friday, 25 November.

Together with Durban Solid Waste, the parks, natural resources and environmental health departments and ward 75 councillor, Eunice Khanyile, the SDB ABM embarked on an educational clean-up campaign.

“The clean-up targeted the Lamontville tin houses on Gwala Street. The aim was to bring together various line departments and individuals in one space to clean the open spaces and to encourage people to educate each other around waste management,” read a statement by the SDB ABM.

The group picked up litter, removed weeds and swept sidewalks. Phumlani Ndlovu from the environmental health department spoke to the residents about health issues, while Khanyile urged them to report anyone seen littering.

“Illegal dumping has become a major issue in the SDB. Community members need to take ownership of their communities and be observant at all times to ensure that illegal dumping is being reported,” said SDB ABM’s Zinhle Biyela.
