Bluff man among three arrested on child porn charges
He was arrested for possession and distribution.
A BLUFF man was arrested for distributing child pornography during an operation spearheaded by SAPS and US Homeland Security.
The operation between SAPS head office, Gauteng, KZN Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) units and US Homeland Security officers based in Pretoria followed an investigation by the Durban FCS Serial and Electronic Crime Investigation Unit, which led to the arrest of three men on Tuesday, 29 November.
Along with the Bluff man, there was a second arrest in Pinetown and a third in Waterfall. The three range in age from 29 to 47. They were found in possession of pornographic material and illegal ammunition.
“The police investigation revealed that the menwere involved in accessing, sharing, downloading and distributing child pornography.
One of the victims is a six-year-old child whose images were discovered by the police on the cellphone belonging to the Bluff suspect.
The police investigation revealed the victim also lives on the Bluff,” read a statement by KZN media.
“The success of this operation is attributed to the partnership between SAPS and US Homeland Security. The police investigation is continuing and will determine whether more suspects are involved in this heinous crime.”
The men were charged with access, possession and distribution of child pornography, sexual assault and possession of illegal ammunition. All three will appear in Durban Regional Court tomorrow, 1 December.
