Oil spill in Clairwood canal

The cause of the spill is not yet known.

THERE has been an oil spill in a canal in Clairwood and the spill has reached the harbour near the Bluff Yacht Club (BYC).

The Bluff Alliance’s Ivor Aylward is on the scene and has confirmed that officials are trying to reduce the quantity of oil flowing downstream into the harbour. They are working on the weir adjacent to Solomon Mahlangu Drive (Edwin Swales VC).

The BYC area has been plagued by several similar incidents over the last few years, costing millions to boat owners and local facilities and destroying marine and coastal habitats.
