Police launch festive season crime fight

The police goal is to make the end and beginning of a new year crime-free.

WITH the festive season around the corner, Durban South police, members of the community and security companies joined Montclair SAPS as they launched the festive operation from now until the new year.

The operation led by Montclair SAPS captain and head of Vispol Stanley Perumal will focus on drugs, liquor, unlicensed firearms and other illegal activities. Areas which are considered hotspots for such crimes, such as SJ Smith Hostel will be under scrutiny by the members who will leave no rock unturned in their goal to make the end and beginning of a new year crime-free.

Montclair SAPS communication officer, Cpt Dereck Vijiam said: “Focus will also be on roadblocks, drunk driving and stolen vehicles. “We are trying to be pro-active with the security and safety of the community. This initiative is also part of the necessary crime prevention which aims to arrest wanted criminals.”
