Durban welcomes onset of cruise season

AHEAD of the Port of Durban’s tender award for the development a new passenger terminal by February 2017, some familiar favourites, like the MSC Sinfonia are set to call into port this cruise season.

At least 14 luxury cruise lines and 20 vessels are expected at SA’s ports during the busy cruise season, which started this morning, 1 November with the arrival of the MSC Sinfonia.

N-Shed will play host to many of the visiting vessels, following its upgrade earlier this year. According to the TNPA, N-Shed now features many new developments including new signage, immigration and check-in desks, a fast track lounge, baggage scanners and conveyor belt, an air-conditioning system, extra seating, balustrades, turnstiles and sail shades, new ramps and a back-up generator and UPS in the event of load shedding.

With plans for further upgrades in place, the passenger terminal will feature state-of-the art equipment in line with improved passenger care.
