Workshop educates informal traders

The purpose of this workshop was to empower all informal traders with skills and knowledge on waste management as well as food handling

IN a bid to clean up the Isipingo CDB, the South Durban Basin (SDB) Area Based Management (AMB) office engaged with nearly 200 Isipingo informal traders on Wednesday, 19 October.

In a programme with the Business Support Unit, the SDB ABM team, along with other municipal and law enforcement entities conducted a workshop to educate informal traders.

“The purpose of this workshop was to empower all informal traders with skills and knowledge on waste management as well as food handling. This included waste management presented by Durban Solid Waste and hygienic food handling by environmental health while Metro Police presented on city by-law enforcement,” said SDB ABM’s Zinhle Ntuli.

According to SBD ABM municipal services manager, Sifiso Xulu, the workshop was part of the ongoing Isipingo regeneration strategy. “These trainings are geared toward stakeholder engagement and changing the mindset of traders to achieve a cleaner and liveable CBD,” said Xulu.

“As traders we will make sure we try keep Isipingo clean as this place helps us in making our livelihood,” said informal traders chairman, Isipingo Sihle Khuzwayo.
