Gunshots sends would-be hijackers fleeing

The officer fired a warning shot and the men jumped out of the car and fled on foot.

AN armed response officer saved the day when he scared off potential hijackers who targeted a woman who was driving towards South Coast Road on Wednesday, 12 October.

At about 3.30pm the officer heard a female motorist screaming.

He immediately went to her rescue. Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said: “The woman screamed out that she did not know the two armed men who had jumped into her car. Our officer fired a warning shot and the men jumped out of the car and fled on foot, one towards nearby bushes and the other towards the railway line. Two of our officers gave chase but they could not find the criminals.”

By the time the officers got back to the scene the woman had driven away. No injuries were reported and a case of attemtped hijacking was opened at Wentworth SAPS.
