Creche buoyed by benefactors

"Humanity can only get better if we treat each other with kindness and empathy," - Jerome 'Dokes' Joubert

A CRECHE which was close to closing it doors was given a new lease on life after a businessman, Jerome ‘Dokes’ Joubert reached out to them and donated R20,000 towards electricity and water.

The owner of Camrod was touched when he read the heart-wrenching story about Blanch Hutchinson and her struggle to keep open her creche, Barney and Friends. In March, Hutchinson reached out to Sun in the hope of getting help. She had just won a 7-year battle to secure the lease for the creche from the Department of Human Settlement but a new problem arose when she was advised that her water and electricity would now be for her sole responsibility which would cost her over R16,000. “I did not have that type of money. It was overwhelming for me and my health was affected,” said Hutchinson. She began to lose hope but never gave up.

After the article was published, Dokes, who is a prominent figure in Wentworth, said her story touched his heart and without hesitation he wanted to help out. ” The children are our future and we need to be there to lend a helping hand – we need to show them that doors can be opened for them,” said Joubert.

He urges the communities surrounding the creche to lend a helping hand. “Be the difference, not just for the creche but for anyone who is in serious trouble. Humanity can only get better if we treat each other with kindness and empathy,” added Joubert.

Woodhaven Pre-Primary to donated sheets and bedding as well as bikers who held a diaper run for the creche’s benefit.
