Spring bingo for Bushlands WI

The Mary Stewart Collect was recited. Marie and Hazel reported having had a wonderful holiday, except for Hazel's sprained ankle which caused a lay-up for 10 days

BUSHLANDS Women’s Institute president, Nora Brown welcomed members Marie Brown and Hazel Caldwell back from their trips to Australia and America respectively, at the meeting held on 1 September.

She also welcomed prospective members Elizabeth Devine and Letitia van Zyl.

The Mary Stewart Collect was recited. Marie and Hazel reported having had a wonderful holiday, except for Hazel’s sprained ankle which caused a lay-up for 10 days. Marie is off again later in the year to the Commonwealth Games – you can’t keep this woman down. They both celebrate their birthdays this month – Marie on 12 September and Hazel on 18 September, and they were wished a happy day.

Absentee Yvonne Lane was wished a speedy recovery, as was Marlene’s husband Russell who has had surgery. A round robin was held, and a game of bingo which was won (must be her lucky day) by Marie Brown. The raffle prizes were won by S White and D du Plessis. Competition results judged by Kay McKee were as follows: Handicraft: First N Brown 90, second L Bootes 85, third S White 70. Homemaking: First L Bootes 90. Merit: First M Jones and D du Plessis 94. Floral: First D du Plessis 98, second M Jones 84. Best bloom: First D du Plessis 99, second M Jones 84.
