Month-long police dragnet nabs more than 60

UPWARDS of 60 people were arrested during two major operations headed by Brighton Beach SAPS in August.

“The aims of the operations were to saturate the area with various law enforcement agencies and eradicate the criminal element within our community,” said media officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.

The large-scale operations included a cordon and search operation, a roadblock, two vehicle check points, 36 stop and searches, 86 blue light patrols, 98 vehicle searches and 228 foot patrols.

During this time an arrest was made for possession of stolen property and another for damage to property; one person was arrested for contravention of the Fisheries Act; three for public drunkenness; seven for trespassing; eight were arrested for being undocumented and another eight for drunk driving; 11 were arrested for road traffic offences and 25 for drug possession. The police recovered a stolen vehicle; executed a warrant of arrest; seized three dangerous weapons and seized R7,105 for drug-related activities.

We also acknowledge the diligent service from our own members within the station – detective services, vispol and operational support,” said Capt Le Roux.
