The school enters a new chapter with a generation of worldly readers since the opening of the library

AFTER 15 years, Clairwood Secondary School will finally experience the joy of having a brand new library.

The R300,000 facility was donated by a power generation company, Cummin, which thrives on the upliftment of the community they live and work in.

Managing director, Andre Kuhn said the goals of Cummin is to develop the people. “It is important to get involved with schools and the environment which is our growth objective. Education is a solid and imperative investment and it the solution for our future,” said Kuhn.

You are the next leaders, nothing can stop you from reaching your goals

In a speech addressed to the pupils, he urged them to invest in their future. “You are the next leaders, nothing can stop you from reaching your goals. Make use of this library and protect it as this is an asset to your education,” he added. “It’s a positive impact on academic achievement, it will support the pupils’ studies and give them the opportunity to advance their skills in literature. It will open a world of wisdom to them,” he said.

The school enters a new chapter with a generation of worldly readers since the opening of the library, much to the delight of principal, Yugen Naidoo who is also a pupil of the school. “This is an historic day. The school is returning to its former glory and this library is another step forward. For 15 years we have been without a library because of lack of funding and now is the time to grasp this opportunity with both hands, explore different worlds, extend your vocabulary and nourish your brain,” he said.

For English teacher of 28 years, Mrs Dhoda said this has been her dream. “The school never had the funds to pursue this dream but thanks to the generosity of Mr Kuhn and his company we have the privilege of giving our pupils a better and more fulfilling education,” said Dhoda.

Circuit manager from the education department in the Umlazi district, Mr Naicker thanked the sponsors for the donation. Any help received from business and other outsiders is appreciated. Clairwood Secondary is one of our biggest schools and we know what directions it is taking. This facility can only benefit the pupils,” he said.

The school presented the MD with an award for the company’s sponsorship and dedication to the school. A plaque for the media centre was also unveiled at the launch.
