Fairvale builds strongest bridges

Fairvale repeated their feat of 2015 by winning first, second and third place

SUCCESS in a bridge building competition held at Fairvale Secondary School will see three of its pupils represent eThekwini at the national competition in Pretoria from 25 to 27 August. The annual competition is run by the South African Institution of Civil Engineering which is sponsored by Naidu Consulting.

Pupils from different schools competed against each other at UKZN’s, Howard College campus on Thursday, 4 August. “The pupils were asked to build a bridge to span 800mm using only 25 sticks and epoxy glue provided. The completed bridges were then tested by loading it with weights until destruction.

Fairvale repeated their feat of 2015 by winning first, second and third place,” said proud principal, Mr Seidle. The school congratulated the winning team of Louis Adams, Jodie Hutchinson, Aiman Isaacs for rising to the top. In second place were Nicholas Hennebery, Megan Fynn, Tre-Vaugn Syman and in third place were Quenton Smith, Lyndal Bowers and Matthew Frederick. Raining champions Fairvale has won this Durban competition 5 times since its entry in 1994. They are confident to continue the winning streak and make their school and community proud of Fairvale Secondary.
