Garden designs speaker enthralls Natalia members

Guy Westbrook kindly offered to speak about 'garden designs'

MEMBERS of Natalia Garden Club were pleased to welcome back Beth Bowie and Yusimi Zayas from their long holiday abroad.

Members were asked to pray for a retired member, Margaret Campbell who died and for sick members.

The club wishes Kamy Moodley and Beryl Smale all the best for their birthdays this month. Prizes were won by the following members at the last meeting: Door prize – Monica Auguste, raffle – Kamy Moodley, 100 club – Yusimi Zayas.

Best pot plant: Mavis Dunn 10; Karolina Kotze, Nora Brown, Jeanne Buitendag, Lettie van Jaarsveld and Yusimi Zayas 9. Excellent exhibits were on display and high scores were obtained in the various sections. Grateful thanks to the experienced judge Mona Edds for her interest, direction and inspiration.

Competitions for this month are decorative: A beautiful vase; cultural: A bromeliad. There are also the usual competitions of best bloom or spray, best orchid, from my garden and best pot plant.

As the speaker on ‘climate change’ was unavailable, Guy Westbrook kindly offered to speak about ‘garden designs’. He captured everyone’s interest with a video on wonderful designs and landscapes, different types of gardens and grasses, as well as in and outdoor gardens. Members look forward to a talk by dynamic Gordon Michael entitled ‘The history of Mitchell Park’ at the club’s next meeting. It will be at the Pigeon Club in Tara Road on Thursday, 11 August at 9.30am. New members and visitors are welcome to spend the morning with the club.
