SDCEA reflects on Madiba’s visit

By working together we can create a better tomorrow

THE South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) spent their 67 minutes on Mandela Day, 18 July cleaning the Nelson Mandela Stone in Wentworth.

“The stone signified the honour of Nelson Mandela the day he arrived in South Durban on Friday, 24 March 1995, to address the high levels of environmental concerns, ill health and pollution that the community suffered under. Mandela inspired residents of South Durban as he listened and acted on their concerns in 1995 and giving back 67 minutes is the least we could do in our daily lives,” said SDCEA intern, Shanice Gomes.

While working the team reminisced about how the former president gave of his time to address the needs of the community, along with Hime Street and and Major Calvert community members.

“We urge people that by working together we can create a better tomorrow,” said Abe Mei.
