Hermanus surfer clinches Cave Rock title

Competitors from around the globe head to the Bluff to vie for honours

THE 2016 edition of the Cave Rock Invitational was held in warm temperatures on Friday, 22 July, with Tristan Lee Roberts from Hermanus in the Western Cape winning the coveted title.

The event, which was held at Brighton Beach for the third consecutive year, saw competitors from around the globe head to the Bluff to vie for honours.

Spectators enjoyed a day of sunshine and good surfing as the tide brought in some good sets for the surfers.

According to event organiser, Michael Ostler, it is the only event in the world that hosts multiple wave crafts competing for one overall title. He added that 24 athletes were invited to compete to be crowned the ‘Champion of Cave Rock’.

Last year Hawaiian Jacob Romero won and in 2014 the winner was ex-bodyboard world champion, Andre Botha. This year the top honours went to Tristan Roberts, with David Van Zyl, Andre Botha and Garryd Ensor Smith coming in second to fourth position respectively.
