Hawks catch men involved in money scam.

AN undercover operation by the Hawks led to the arrest of two men yesterday, 21 June for a scam involving luggage in Durban harbour.

The priority crime unit were tipped off by a victim of the scam being run by the two men and they set up an undercover operation to catch them.

The man who had been scammed said he had been asked for money so the duo could retrieve their luggage they claimed was in a ship in the harbour.

The man handed over some money, but they kept asking for more. Eventually, they said they could make him rich if he gave them R162,000.

Armed with the information from the scam victim, the Hawks arrested the two men, aged 40 and 41, on charges of fraud, resisting arrest and assault.

They appeared in Durban commercial court today, 22 June and were remanded in custody for the case to be heard on Wednesday, 29 June.
