Tow truck driver robbed at roadside breakdown

Six men emerged from the bushes and pointed guns at the men.

WHILE assisting at a breakdown, a tow truck driver was attacked and robbed by six armed men on Higginson Highway on Friday, 10 June.

The tow truck driver was assisting a client with a broken down car at about 9am.

While he was hooking the car to be towed, six men emerged from the bushes and pointed guns at the men. The suspects robbed the tow truck driver of his chain, a two-way radio, R4,000 in cash, a tool bag and jumper cables. Not ending their raid, they moved onto his client and robbed him of his belongings. The criminals ran back into the bushes. No shots were fired and no injuries were sustained.

Another case of armed robbery was reported the next day, 11 June. The victim was on his way home in Montclair, when he was approached by two men. One produced a gun and demanded his cellphone and his wallet. To top it off, they stole his cap before running off.

“He went to the police station and Captain Ntuli drove around the area with him,” Said Montclair SAPS communications officer, Lt Dereck Vijiam. In a matter of minutes, the victim spotted the men. Backup was called and the thieves were cornered and arrested. The firearm used in the robbery was recovered.

Montclair SAPS management commend Captain Ntuli for taking the initiative which led to the arrest of the two thieves.
