Stainbank WI celebrates 44 years

On with the music and as usual, the choir outdid themselves with a look back at songs from movies that everyone remembered.

HOW wonderful it was to see so many members and visitors at Stainbank Women’s Institute’s 44th birthday celebrations.

President Arlene Greenfield opened the meeting with a warm welcome to everyone and the singing of Unity and the Mary Stewart Collect.

She then introduced all the members at the top table, with a special welcome to executive member Maureen Lavis.

As usual a lot of work had gone into the decor, especially by Sheila Von der Zon, and the flowers by Beattie Johnston Webber. Vice president Linda Hewer made the birthday cake and Bernadette Jarman the amazing programmes. The food table was absolutely loaded. Thank you to members.

Long service badges were awarded to Arlene Greenfield, Maria McDonald and Wendy van Eyk for 15 years, to Aileen Wiggell for 25 years and to a special Phyllis Parsonage for an unbelievable 55 years. Congratulations members, keep up the good work.

There were also some special prizes to the most enthusiastic member to who else but Sheila von der Zon, the star award to Beattie Johnstone Webber and the usual fun award of the wooden spoon to Deserie Cousins.

Order diaries if required. Members were wished birthday greetings for their special day. Before tea and the choir, a special lady who is dear to SWI cut the birthday cake. Thank you to Elizabeth Keith for being with the institute.

On with the music and as usual, the choir outdid themselves with a look back at songs from movies that everyone remembered. Special thanks to Bernadette Pellow Jarman, musical director and special guest Charmaine Newmarch, both playing the guitar. Thank you to members for all their hard work – it really was great.

At the next meeting, there will be no speaker but it will be interesting to hear what some members say on a certain subject. Go along on the first Tuesday of the month.
