Two die in N2 crash near cement factory

Another 30 hurt in two crashes on same stretch of freeway

TWO weekend accidents on the N2 near the cement factory led to the death of two people, while a total of 30 were left injured.

In the first accident, a taxi and a bakkie collided on the southbound carriageway at about 7.30pm on Saturday, 11 June, leading to the death of the bakkie driver and a taxi passenger. Paramedics used the jaws of life to extricate the bakkie driver from the wreckage. Another two people were stabilised at the scene and taken to hospital.

On the same stretch of freeway, on the northbound carriageway, a bus careened off the N2 after colliding with two cars just after 5am on Sunday morning, 12 June. Some 28 people were injured when the bus left the freeway and crashed down an embankment. Injuries sustained ranged from minor to moderate. They were stabilised and transported to various hospitals.

Police will investigate the cause of both crashes.
