Pastor writes book to empower community towards success

The aim for the pastor's book is to help a person discover themselves and help build their character.

AMID the escalating violence and hardships in Wentworth, a pastor whose calling brought him to the area is hopeful that he can impart knowledge and answers through his new book, ‘Common Denominators to Success’.

He believes the book touches on subjects that can help a lot in the community and humanity.Born in Zambia, 35-year-old pastor, Humphrey Mutiti has lived a tough life. Orphaned at a very young age, Mutiti and his little sister lived under a bridge on the streets and he got involved with the wrong crowd. After a while young Mutiti realised that it was time to get his life in order, “I had to think of my sister as well so in order to survive, I started working on the sugar cane fields and also put myself through school. I realised that education is a direction into the right path,” he said.

In 2005, a church visit showed him what he wanted to be in life. A subject that he strongly touches on in his book. “I saw how successful the pastor was when it came to changing lives, in terms of his character. How the pastor aimed to save souls. I wanted that and so it became my biggest dream. In my book I speak about success and how failure is a life subject we all need to take. It is a step towards success, it teaches us that making mistakes is part of growth and learning. It humbles us,” he said. His dream to become a successful pastor kept him alive on the streets and gave him the will to fight for his future.

His focus for Wentworth is to transform lives and help mend those who have fallen into the ills of the community

“It is easy to get lost in a situation like mine. Some people who do suffer with indifference in life tend to feel worthless, as if they are meant to be in the situation they’re stuck in. In my book, I speak of vision. I want people to realise God has better plans for us, He hasn’t made any of us a ‘nobody’. Know who you are and have a vision of where you want to be and strive towards it. My aim for my book is to help a person discover themselves and help build their character. They will learn to believe in themselves and God. I want them to have passion for life as it brings me great pleasure to see someone reignite their life from their darkness,” he said.

His focus for Wentworth is to transform lives and help mend those who have fallen into the ills of the community. “I feel they need me to help pick them up and equip them with skills to become a success. I want to add value in the community,” said Mutiti.
