WENTWORTH educare centre has been showered with blessings when a local business donated signage and two park-home containers with the help of sponsors on 23 May.
The initiative which has been going for three months has given life to the Excel créche which has had a run of bad luck. Run by principal, Doreen Hamiel, the school strives on educating children despite it’s own difficulties, including having almost no roof and being affected by crime.
Selwin Swartz, CEO of Fabricon, said as a company they try to help as much as they can. “We’ve been watching Excel creche and were aware of the state of the school and what it’s been through in the past years. We also noticed how the principal showed great passion and commitment to the school and its pupils. No matter what curve ball was thrown their way, she would hit back stronger and harder. It’s qualities like this that motivated us to give back,” said Swartz.
He visited the school earlier this year and saw their needs. “The school needed a lot of attention and the children were sitting on cold floors and cramped together in a room. We also realised the school has no signage to show the public who they are and what they do,” he said.
With no time wasted, signage was erected and two park home containers, turned into classrooms were moved onto the school grounds. The containers were fully furnished into proper classrooms and electricity was connected.
Hamiel is overwhelmed with happiness and thanks all sponsors, Fabricon, Wolf Electrical, Container Conversion and All Sign for their hand in the changes to her school. “It is always comforting when corporate businessmen step in and play a vital role in helping to educate our future leaders. We are ever-so-grateful to Fabricon for their continued support,” said principal Hamiel.
