Damaged clinic gate left unrepaired after six months

Local councillor questions delay.

WARD 66 councillor, Duncan Du Bois questions the delay in repairing the entrance gate to the Bluff Clinic six months later.

“For almost six months the entrance gate has been lying broken and useless. As chairman of the Bluff Clinic Committee I have added our concerns about this state of affairs without any positive response.

We have been told the delay involves an insurance claim. That is an unacceptable excuse,” said Du Bois.

The councillor is concerned the well-equipped clinic and medications are a target for thieves.

“How can the safety and security of this vital community amenity be left vulnerable? It is ratepayer property, paid for by ratepayers, maintained by ratepayers and as the representatives of ratepayers we demand that that security gate is repaired or replaced with immediate effect.

Recently it was disclosed that the council had spent R7-million on providing security services in the past year for certain councillors and exco members. Whilst that alone is the subject of another debate, the inference to draw from it is that excessive sums of money can be spent on the personal safety of certain individuals for political reasons, but when it comes to securing a vital community amenity such as the Bluff Clinic, somehow funding is not forthcoming.”
