Hijacked motorist dumped in Umlazi

Be vigilant and aware of your surroundings

A MAN hijacked in Montclair on Monday, 16 May was abandoned in the bushes of Umlazi and had to trek on foot all the way to Montclair police station .

The victim was parked on the pavement along Kenyon Howden Road at about 6pm when three men approached him and jumped into his car.

He was told to lay down on the floor quietly. They drove off and once they reached Umlazi, they threw him out into the bushes and drove away.

Not knowing where he was, he fumbled around in the darkness where he bumped into a stranger who advised him he was in Umlazi. He continued to walk until he reached a garage in South Coast Road. “Unfortunately the people he asked for help had no cellphones on them so he continued walking,” said Montclair SAPS communication officer, Lt Dereck Vijiam.

His journey back to Montclair finally ended at the police station where he reported the crime. His car was later recovered in Umlazi, thanks to the attending officers.

Lt Vijiam urges motorists to be careful when they are stationary, especially on the side of the road. “You have to be vigilant and aware of your surroundings, notice the people around you and make sure your doors are locked,” he said.
