Fourteen drunk drivers netted in Mobeni roadblock

Every arrest for drunk driving is one too many on our roads.

A CRACKDOWN on drunk driving saw 14 offenders arrested and detained by Montclair SAPS during a roadblock on Friday, 15 March.

All the arrests were made on South Coast Road, Mobeni.

Drunk driving is a major concern for authorities. Last year, according to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) annual report, speed and alcohol abuse were identified as the top two contributing factors that led to the 4,500 crashes between last April and August.

Police urge drivers to take precautions on the roads and if they intend of having a few drinks to ensure they organised a designated driver or make use of taxi services. Montclair SAPS communications officer, Lt Derek Vijiam said drunk driving is a growing problem in the area, “At Montclair we concentrate on keeping our roads safe. Every arrest for drunk driving is one too many on our roads. We will leave no stone unturned to make this a safer place.”
