Ezimbokodweni entrepreneurs tap into small business workshop

The residents of Ezimbokodweni have never had such opportunities brought right to their doorstep before

As part of its local economic development programme, South Durban Basin (SDB) area based management (ABM) of Ethekwini Municipality hosted a successful business empowerment workshop  in ward 93, Ezimbokodweni.

The focus was on small medium and micro enterprise (SMME) development, an area of work that the city has prioritised as vital to creating employment and income generation.

The residents of Ezimbokodweni have never had such opportunities brought right to their doorstep before. Some 120 people consisting of businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs embraced the workshop, which aimed to inculcate entrepreneurial spirit within the local communities and empower aspiring entrepreneurs with small business development programmes by providing critical business information.

Presentations were delivered by various internal and external stakeholders to enlighten small businesses of the development programmes geared to facilitating growth of SMME’s. These partners were SEDA, Ithala, Ethekwini supply chain management, Absa, Durban Chamber and EMA, formerly known as skills development unit.

Delivering the welcome address, Councillor Nokuthula Makahanya said: “The community of Ezimbokodweni is grateful to the SDB ABM for bringing this workshop to the area. The community wants to see the best in the near future and such programmes present an opportunity for ward 93 to advance small business development sector.”

SDB local economic development co-ordinator, Fanele Masombuka said he was happy with the workshop and that it will be a start to bringing opportunities to the long neglected community of Ezimbokodweni.
