Monkey ‘Thief’ makes off with rent money

For anyone who thinks this is funny, please put yourself in my shoes

A BLUFF man is distraught after realising his rent money which was kept in a Pringles tin, went missing yesterday afternoon, 5 March.

Who he suspects of taking his money is no human, rather as he claims, a curious and hungry monkey who entered his 2nd floor home.”The landlord came to fetch the rent and when I turned around to pick up the tin, it was gone. I am certain monkeys entered my home once again, looking for my food as usual and saw the tin thinking it’s food and took it,” said the puzzled man.

I’m so bummed out, I really don’t know what to do

It may be an unusual story for some but for the sub-contractor, this is no laughing matter. “I am heartbroken and sick to my stomach. It impossible for me to replace such a large sum of money and for anyone who thinks this is funny, please put yourself in my shoes,” he said. He pleads with anyone who finds the money to please return it to him so he can pay his overdue rent. “I’m so bummed out, I really don’t know what to do. If anyone finds it, please have it in your heart and return it to me,” he said.

Monkey Helpline founder and chairman, Steve Smit sympathises with the man’s loss but highly doubts that a monkey took his tin. “First of all monkeys don’t steal, they forage and if one happened to pick up the tin, it would have dropped it close by. What people need to do is make the effort to know a bit more about these intelligent and entertaining little animals and the reasons why they do some of the things that irritate and anger people.
