Bicycle, skate park plans make headway

This recreational area will provide children with things to do in a safe space.

A BICYCLE track, skate park and recreational area will become Bluff attractions in the coming months.

About four months ago, Rake Jeeves, Guy Watkins, Melissa Devos and Justin Grobler began discussions on the potential for a family friendly area in the Bluff Eco Park and Jeeves announced last week that the plans are making good headway.

“I tried to get it done in the showgrounds a few years ago. The proposal was put in and nothing was heard after that. When the Eco Park was approached a few months ago, things started happening,” said Community Orientated Policing chairman, Jeeves.

Construction of the 3km bike track is expected to start in about a month’s time and it will follow the old caravan park roads mainly and go through some grassland areas. Jeeves assures residents there will be no impact on the animals.

Following the completion of the bicycle track, the skate park will be built and finally, a small area will be fenced off at a later date to serve as a children’s play area.

“For so many years when we asked the people of the Bluff what they wanted, a skate park and safe place for parents to take their children to play was top of the list.

This recreational area will provide children with things to do in a safe space. It will be a nice place for families to visit and will help improve fitness through active sports.”

Jeeves has called for anyone willing to assist with manpower to contact him by emailing rakejeeves@telkomsa.net.
