Zero tolerance for drunk drivers

Montclair SAPS has taken a zero tolerance stance on driving under the influence of liquor.

TWO people arrested for drunk driving the Montclair SAPS on Saturday, 5 March, spent the rest of the weekend behind bars.

While holding a vehicle control point in Montclair around 4pm, Constable Mbanjwa noticed a driver was driving erratically. When he was stopped and showed signs of being under the influence of liquor, he was arrested and taken to the district surgeon to get his blood tested. “He was detained and charged at Montclair station. The suspect appeared in Wentworth court on Monday, 7 March,” said communications officer, Lt Derek Vijiam. On the same day another arrest was made when a drunk driver drove through a red robot on Mayfair Road in Montclair. Constable Zulu saw him and pursued after him. He detained the driver, who appeared to be under the influence and arrested him. He was charged with driving under the influence and appeared at Wentworth court on Monday, 7 March.

Lt Vijiam said Montclair SAPS has taken a zero tolerance stance on driving under the influence of liquor. The abuse of liquor has resulted in social crimes such as domestic violence, assault and assault GBH.
