Bus fares raised by 9%

Bus fare increase next month.

FROM 1 April, the fare for Durban Transport buses will increase by 9%, as approved by the eThekwini Municipality executive committee on 23 February.

According to the committee, the increase is required in order to cover operating costs and the decision was made in light of the municipality not implementing any fee increases in 2015. They said the increase was kept to a minimum to avoid a detrimental effect on commuters.

As commissioned by the eThekwini Transport Authority, an independent assessment of the cost increase in fuel, labour and other operating costs was undertaken by transport economic support services.
