Illegal electrical links severed

ETHEKWINI Municipality is targeting illegal electrical connections, which cost the city millions and puts lives at risk.

In an operation on Friday, 19 February thousands of illegal wires were disconnected by the municipal electricity unit, Eskom, Telkom, SAPS and other law enforcement agencies and many more operations are planned in the municipality.

The municipality warns people against cable and electricity theft as it often results in deaths and damage to infrastructure, which costs the municipality about R230-million annually.

Report cable theft by calling the electricity call centre on 080-131-3111, SMSing 083-700-0819 or emailing custocare@elec.durban.gov.za.

Other options include the cable theft hotline on 031-311-9611, SAPS on 10111 or Metro Police emergency line on 031-361-0000.
