Khoi King endorses KZN Korana Council

The Khoebaha encourages the Korana and other Khoi and San tribes to work towards uplifting Khoisan communities

KHOEBAHA (King) Jafta Taaibosch-Davids of the Kei Korana Royal House visited Durban on Saturday, 13 February at a well-attended event at the International Assemblies of God Church in Wentworth.

The purpose of the visit to Durban was to endorse the KZN  Korana Council. The Khoebaha was accompanied by Prince Hector, Royal Council advisor !Nauseb Tony Petersen, !Kei Nauseb Mostert from Mpumalanga and other members of the Royal Council based in Bloemfontein, which is the seat of the Kei Korana Royal House.

In his address to the public, he encouraged the Korana and other Khoi and San tribes to work towards uplifting Khoisan communities. He also implored the community to work together in reclaiming their identity and to be proud of who they are.

“The King’s endorsement is an important milestone for the Tribal House. It also signals the beginning of the work to improve the lives of the Korana and Khoi and San people in the province. The new Council is headed by Kei !Nauseb Stephen Bailey who will be assisted in his role by Metro !Nauseb Ronnie Petersen,” said Kei Korana Council member, Jean Choudree.

Other council members are !Nausebs Ronnie Swarts, Walter Petersen, Dilarno de Waal and Colin Ogle. A number of Humqwebs (headmen) and Humqwes (head women) also serve on the Council. They are Cyril Krantz, Denise Stuart, Jeanette Wroots (Newlands East), Cedric Petersen (Sydenham), Rhona Bailey, Jean Choudree and Debbie Peters (Wentworth).

“The Kei Korana Council in KZN will now seriously focus on responding to the call from the Kei Korana Royal Council. Our structure is in place and we must strive to make the difference that will reduce poverty and hardship among the Khoi and the San. We invite all Khoi and San tribal entities to join us on this road,” said Choudre
