Rates clearance fees hiked

Increase approved by committee.

A SIX percent increase will come into effect on rates clearance certificate fees in July.

The increase was approved at a recent meeting of eThekwini Municipality’s finance and procurement committee.

From 1 July, electronic applications related to properties valued up to R185,000 will cost R124 and those above R185,000 will cost R198 while manual applications for properties valued up to R185,000 will cost R247 and properties above R185,000 will cost R371.

“We encourage all to utilise the electronic system to cease challenges of the manual process which include manual checking, additional administration and capturing of information,” said Krish Kumar, treasury deputy city manager.
